STANDARD ONE-Strategic Leadership
School executives will create conditions that result in strategically re-imaging the school’s vision, mission, and goals in the 21st century. Understanding that schools ideally prepare students for an unseen but not altogether unpredictable future, the leader creates a climate of inquiry that challenges the school community to continually re-purpose itself by building on its core values and beliefs about its preferred future and then developing a pathway to reach it.
A) School vision, Mission and Strategic Goals:
The school’s identity, in part, is derived from the vision, mission, values, belief and goals of the school, the processes used to establish these attributes, and the ways they are embodied in the life of the school community. |
In the NCSLA program I was charged to write my on vision statement as a future leader using the knowledge from the courses that I have taken.
|
B) Leading Change
The school’s identity, in part, is derived from the vision, mission, values, belief and goals of the school, the processes used to establish these attributes, and the ways they are embodied in the life of the school community. |
Merrick-Moore has been labeled a low-performing school per the states designation. In order to get the school out of the low-performing status it was awarded a SIG grant. A requirement of the grant was to bring on new educators in different areas to help grow MME as a school.
The leadership team had a workshop for new staff to show and increase excitement for the vision. |
C) School Improvement Plan
The school improvement plan provides the structure for the vision. Values, goals and changes necessary for improved achievement for all students. |
Throughout my residency I was a member of the School Improvement Teams . During the team meetings we discuss items from the improvement plan and how the plan was being met. During this meeting we reviewed the Action Report that was generated during the SIG Grant process for the components of the plan as generated by NC State Department. During this meeting we reviewed the existing action plan (provided here) and revised the assigned indicators as a result of staff changes and other improvement.

D) Distributive Leadership
The school executive creates and utilizes processes to distribute leadership and decision making throughout the school. |
My Principal mentor create duties and responsibilities for each Assistant Principal and myself to focus on throughout the school year. We were responsible to collaborate with other thought partners to ensure we were completing all tasks to continue growing Merrick-Moore.
